How do professional tennis players pick the balls which they are going to use for their serve?
romytf asked:
Professional tennis players seem to know which balls immediately they are going to use for service by just holding them in one hand. What is the basis for their decision. To the ordinary person it seems that all the balls look the same.

They feel it and bounce it and if it feels right to them they use….

they check furr and the get it from its bounce with hand… if less furr, they will select at as it speeds more in air…

They choose a ball with less flattening of the knap (the outer fibre) because this will fly through the air quicker than one already flattened by being struck by the racket.

They use the balls that are less worn.

Tennis professionals generally look at the outer fuzz and the pressure of the ball. They want a ball that is not fuzzing up because it is more aerodynamic and will fly through the air faster. They also want to see which ball has the most pressure or is the “hardest” as these balls will bounce higher and faster and for the server this is an advantage.
